| More about me | I am a partner at Spigthoff Attorneys at Law & Tax Advisers from the day of incorporation of the firm. I graduated from the VU University (Amsterdam) in 1989 (both civil and notarial law). I am an attorney as from 1989 and admitted to both the Dutch Caribbean and the Amsterdam bar. I am the President of the Curacao Bar Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Curacao Chamber of Commerce. My practice emphasizes corporate, commercial and financial matters, including litigation. I have handled mergers and acquisitions; corporate holding structures; international and domestic investment and financial transactions; regulatory and compliance issues as well as the shaping of international and domestic joint ventures. In addition, I have been involved in the drafting of several State Ordinances. I am the (co-)author of many articles and several books on various aspects of Dutch and Dutch Caribbean (Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius) law. More in particular, I am the author of the leading legal text book on Netherlands Antilles and Aruba corporate law (2nd edition 2006; 340 pages), the co-author together with Michiel van Eersel of ‘Toezicht trustkantoren in Nederland’ (Supervision on trust offices in the Netherlands; 2nd edition 2010; 174 pages) as well as co-author together with Jerry Hoff of ‘Geschillen in het effectenverkeer’ (Disputes concerning securities transactions; 1st edition 1995, 118 pages), all in Dutch only. I am a core editor and frequent commentator of ‘Jurisprudentie Onderneming en Recht’, the Netherlands leading publication of jurisprudence in corporate and commercial matters as well as a core editor and commentator of ‘Commentaar Financieel Recht’, a leading Dutch publication in financial law matters. And not to forget, I am the author of Karel’s Legal Blog. |
